Hello,

I am looking for an opportunity to create a staging site on a AWS EC2 instance. We have a productive website and doing backups with UpdraftPlus. Is it possible to import these backup files on the staging webserver with the Updraft plugin to create a staging website?

We already tried this once but noticed that changes we made on the staging site were also adopted on the productive website. We think that the database parameter in the wp-config.php caused that issue because we didnt changed it to the name of the new database.

Does anyone can help me with this issue?

UpdraftPlus will only update a site if the changes are migrated across (this is a very deliberate action, it would never automatically sync two sites)

To migrate the changes from staging to a live site you would need to follow this guide: https://updraftplus.com/faqs/how-do-i-migrate-to-a-new-site-location/

So it is not possible to change the database parameter in the wp-config.php within the backup files of UpdraftPlus?

Because I did not find this file.

You can backup and restore your wp-config with the premium version (although we don’t recommend this)
