I’m a Integrator and Front-End developer wanting to expand my skills into creating themes or at least modifying existing ones to suit a client’s needs.

I’ve closely read Why WordPress Themes and succeeded to take an existing theme and modified the css. But I feel I need to learn more since the above article covers so much.

I created a blog on my development machine. I’ve written some Lorem Ipsum blog entries and one entry with photos attached (i.e., a photo album). I am not sure I’ve used the power of WordPress enough to expose myself to all facets that need to be looked at for creating a theme.

Can someone direct me, in a point form, perhaps, as to all the areas I should add content? I have done:

    • A WordPress installation with a few entries
    • A blog entry with photos

  • If you’re looking for a thorough way to test your theme, try the Theme Unit Test. This includes test data you can import to your installation–no need to reinvent the wheel.

    That worked perfectly, thanks.

There is one thing about the instructions that is missing, however.

There’s no mention that the WordPress Importer plug-in has to be activated. I was lucky for I have enough experience with other CMS’s to know there’s gotta be a resource. But not everyone will, especially someone totally new to WP
