Creating my store issues

I just signed up with WooCommerce and have attempted to build it twice. My site is a blog site where I would like to add a store, selling the things I write about. When I create the store it becomes the actual homepage of the entire site and not something that has a link in the menu bar. How can I create this so that it is a separate entity from the homepage of my site?
