I’m not sure if I’m thinking about this right.

Basically, I’m trying to create major cities as my main Categories, then create Sub Categories of businesses under those Categories. So let’s say, under Boston, there would be Carpenters, Roofers, Landscapers…and under Chicago, there would also be Carpenters, Roofers, Landscapers. Do I need to duplicate ALL those Sub Categories under each Category, or is there a better way to do this?

What I’m trying to accomplish is on my directory homepage, I’ll just have a list of all the major cities I currently cover (e.g. Boston, Chicago, Seattle, etc). Then when user clicks into the city, they can see all the businesses under each of the Sub Categories.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Sorry!!! I missed the notification of your post.

I recommend creating a top level parent category named Cities and then as children add the individual Cities.

Next create a top level parent category named Trades and then add Carpenters, Roofers, Landscapers, etc.

Now when you add an entry assign it the the correct categories.

Now, the landing pages on the front-end, that is a bit more tricky. I suggest the premium template cMap to accomplish this as this will make it easier. Here’s the link:

The you can follow the instructions in this FAQ:

You would use two category IDs, on for the matching City category, for example the ID for Boston and the category ID for the Trades parent category. Create a page for each city, add the shortcode to each changing the category ID for the city.

I hope this make sense and helps!

ps. Again, my apologies for missing your post!!!
