• The website stated there was a critical error, I disabled the plugins to get the site working again but have not enabled this one.

    Why did it occur?

I received the following from WP
Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.

In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, iThemes Security.

    WordPress version 5.8
Current theme: Twenty Seventeen (version 2.8) Current plugin: iThemes Security (version 8.0.1) PHP version 7.2.31

  • Hi dingers,

Considering the fact that the site seems to be using the iTSec plugin 8.0.1 release, I think it is best to first update to the latest (8.0.2) plugin release and see whether the issue persists.

On second thought, it looks like the currently installed iTSec 8.0.1 release includes some of the 8.0.2 files…
This points towards a partially completed update. So it’s probably best to delete the current plugins/better-wp-security folder and then manually copy/extract the better-wp-security.8.0.2.zip file into the plugins folder.

Should the manual update resolve the issue, please don’t forget to mark this topic as resolved.

+++++ To prevent any confusion, I’m not iThemes +++++

    Hi dingers,

I can see the http://www.mudefordferry.co.uk/ site is now properly running with the iTSec plugin 8.0.2 release.

So I guess it’s time to mark this topic as resolved 😉

I have not activated it yet so it is not running at all.

    Hi dingers,

Ah, my apologies, so it looks like I jumped to a conclusion.

What’s keeping you from activating it?

Turns out my problem was caused by the plugin Smash Balloon Custom Facebook Feed

    A plugin conflict ? That’s a very unexpected outcome…

    Are you sure ?

    Hi dingers,

If you require no further assistance please mark this topic as “resolved”.
