Critical Error

    I am getting an error message following an update of WP to 5.3 (I think), and I got this message when attempting to access my dashboard:

    There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

    The email alert did not come and is not in my spam folder. I am not a developer, and I am reluctant to implement the wp_debug method on a live site. I should mention that I first updated all of the plugins without incident, then attempted to update WP to a 5.x version (can’t remember which one) when the error occurred. I am currently running it on php 5.6. Should I just change the php version?

    I would appreciate anyone’s help at this point. The site is a non-profit org that supports a nesting pair of peregrine falcons in Utica, NY. Site is http://www.big-green.net/falcon Thank you.

    Errors like this are logged. Check the error log on your server. If you can’t find the log, please contact your host.

    Meantime, enable wp_debug and wp_debug_log and after an error, look at wp-content/debug.log to see if anything gets logged there. https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/

    You can also try this: Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

    If you cannot access wp-admin, there are other ways to deactivate plugins.
