    Hello,

After I setup the plugin, i had a critical error on the site. It really messes up the site. I couldnt also work on the backend.

I am not sure how to set it properly, am using 2mhost, and am not a developer.

I suspect it has something to do with the redirect, as the hosting support also mentioned that it has something to do with htaccess.

I had picked 301 redirect initially so not sure why it’s affecting htaccess.

Have uninstalled the plugin for now, but interested to retry again.

I only want hassle free and simple SSL and to enable https. I dont need the rest of the features if it is making the process slow and difficult.

If you have specific instructions on what to add in htaccess file, that I can relay to my hosting support, please share here. It will be helpful.

    Thanks, Carmen

  • Yeah Carmen, the devs of this plugin really don’t care about your problems after you buy the pro version. You paid them money. You cannot ask for a refund. Well, you can, but you will not get it. Stick with the free version for less headaches.

To clarify, this happened to my website as well. The only fix that I could get from them was cricket sounds. So, I uninstalled the pro version. They added insult to injury the next day by telling me that my renewal was coming due. I cancelled my subscription to the plugin. It’s just not worth it in the end.

    @carmen9ccw Hi Carmen,

Thanks for reporting your issue. Can you tell me a bit more about the issue you were experiencing? You mention that the .htaccess is affected, in what way exactly? If you don’t enable the .htaccess redirect, it doesn’t add a redirect. Based on your description, it sounds as if you didn’t enable other features, is that correct?

@elderlygoods please be assured that if you ask for a refund, you will always get it within one business day. If you haven’t received a response to your questions from us, please check your spam folder, as we always respond to every email we receive. We’ll check the spam on our end as well to see if there’s an issue there, but feel free to reach out directly on support(at)really-simple-ssl.com.

    hello Rogier,

Appreciate your reply. All my pages turned up as 404. I could only get the site to work after I disabled the plugin.

Did not select 301 redirect vs htaccess.

    Kindly assist. Thanks.

@carmen9ccw Usually 404 pages are caused by the change from http to https in the site-url. Re-saving the permalinks should resolve this (WordPress settings/permalinks, save).

Really Simple SSL will also try to flush the permalinks 5 minutes after SSL has been activated, but it might need to be done manually in this case.

Let me know if this resolves the issue for you!

Thanks for the explanation. I will try this and reply here the outcome.

    Hello Rogier,

I tried it and it seems like the 404 is not reappearing.

However, we have done resaving Permalinks several times before this, does this mean we have to keep saving permalinks regularly to avoid the issue from cropping up?

Also, what will happen if we choose “No redirects”

    Thanks!

    Glad to hear!

It’s usually not necessary to re-save the permalinks.

Without a redirect to https it might still be possible to visit the site over http, which is why we strongly recommend it.
