I began installing an update for WooCommerce on my website, and I guess the update timed out because now my website will not load. I get a critical error everywhere – my homepage, my WordPress dashboard, etc.

I did receive an email from WordPress saying:

“WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, WooCommerce PayPal Payments.”

It gave me a link to login normally with recovery mode, but it does not work – maybe because I have a change admin login page URL plugin enabled? I have tried to manually update the WooCommerce PayPal Payments plugin, the error remains.

“When seeking help with this issue, you may be asked for some of the following information:
    WordPress version 6.7.2
    Current theme: Woodmart (version 8.1.1)

Current plugin: WooCommerce PayPal Payments (version 3.0.1) PHP version 7.4.33

Nevermind, since nobody bothered to respond here, I went searching for answers myself. If anyone else finds this and needs help, here’s what I did:

    • Logged into my website via FTP
    • Renamed my plugins folder ‘plugins-old’ to disable them all, this gave me access to my admin dashboard again
    • Reinstalled each plugin again one by one in my dashboard, refreshing my website each time to see if there was an issue
    • I purposely did not install the PayPal payments plugin again- I didn’t have it set up anyway previously

    Hello @gardenofclovers

Thank you for the follow-up. Just to clarify, we don’t work on weekends, which is why there was a delay in responding. We usually aim to reply to all threads within 24 hours during business days.

From what you described, it sounds like a plugin conflict, and it’s great that you managed to narrow things down on your own. For future reference, if the PayPal Payments plugin is causing issues after activation, we recommend doing a full conflict test to confirm compatibility:

    1. Activate a default theme
Temporarily switch to a default theme like Storefront. This helps rule out any theme-related issues.
    2. Disable other plugins
Deactivate all other plugins except WooCommerce and PayPal Payments.
    3. Reactivate plugins one by one
Re-enable each plugin one at a time, testing after each one, until you identify the one that causes the problem.

If you run into the same issue again or want to give PayPal Payments another try, feel free to reach out.

    Kind Regards,
    Krystian
