I’m looking for a way to map normal posts to photo posts on Tumblr. Featured images are mandatory on our WordPress site, posts can’t be published without them, as a result we don’t have a discrete ‘photo’ post, there wouldn’t be any benefit.

If the plugin doesn’t support this natively, is there any easy modification I can make to map posts to photo posts on Tumblr?

I’ve seen several requests to do this in the past, if a solution has been presented I’ve unfortunately missed the response.

You could use the tumblr_crosspostr_prepared_post filter to do this if you wanted, but I’d recommend against it as doing that will violate the principle of least surprise and will be difficult to maintain. If your site does not differentiate between normal and photo posts, then what’s the harm in using the Image post format all the time? That way your posts on WordPress will still be the same as they always were, but your crossposts to Tumblr will be set as Photo posts, as desired.

In the end I edited the source of the plugin.

There’s a fundamental difference between how you envisage the plugin should be used and what suits teams in the real world. In this case it would have made no sense to tell our writers to change the way they post because a plugin developer said so.

You’re also misusing the resolved status.

Great, glad to hear you worked out the problem for your own personal real world. 🙂 Take care.
