CSS does not show up

I’ve tried changing the stylesheet.css with a couple of different Themes in the Dashboard – but they don’t work. Every time I try to Publish and look at the changes I still get the original style that came with the Theme – even if I remove all the code from stylesheet.css – so it me it appears as if it’s coming from somewhere else. But where?
