Current date variable in title and description
-
Hi. I like your plugin.
I think I’ll go from the Yoast plugin to your “The SEO Framework”, because in the last update of Yoast, they deprecated snippet variables like %%currentyear%% which allows to have current year in the meta title and description. This feature is very important for me.
So I would like to ask you, is it possible to use such current date variables in your plugin?
If no, is it possible to add such feature to your plugin?
Thank you.

Hi @davidki,
It’s a bummer they removed a feature you liked. However, I do understand why they would.
I haven’t read into their reasoning. However, there are many signals from WordPress facing Google that a page isn’t updated, while the title states otherwise. It makes pages utilizing such titles prone to be targeted by Google Penguin.Personally, I’ve encountered pages obviously using this feature, and I’ve bounced quickly.
But, I digress from your inquiry. In short, The SEO Framework currently is under heavy development to allow complete meta customization; which is making way for these features.
The feature you’re asking for is what I’m calling “Verbose Titles“, which also accounts for descriptions. It has yet to undergo development and it’s open to discussion.
To summarize: It’s currently not (easily) possible to achieve what you wish with The SEO Framework. I recommend checking in again a half year from now.
I know this is not the answer you were looking for, but I hope you’ve gained new insights 🙂
Thank you for your reply Sybre.
I’ll keep track of your plugin and wait for the functionality I need.
I have one more question bout breadcrumb navigations. I tried to install your plugin and I found some mention of breadcrumb.
But I don’t understand If there is a way how to display breadcrumb navigation in the template with some piece of code like it is possible with Yoast plugin.
Hi @davidki,
My pleasure!
The breadcrumbs TSF outputs are via a JSON-LD script. This script can easily be interpreted by search engines, and they don’t have to be displayed visually on your site.
These breadcrumbs are automatically generated using WordPress’ category structure and your primary category selection, among other things. You can learn more about them on Google’s Breadcrumb documentation page.
Hi @cybr, any update on the functionality which was initially requested from David? Thanks
Hi @ruifct,
Not yet! I’m still preparing…
1. https://github.com/sybrew/the-seo-framework/issues/88
2. https://github.com/sybrew/the-seo-framework/issues/140Hello Sybre. Is this functionality working now?
Originally I asked you for that more than 8 months ago.
Thank you, David
Hi David,
In the software world, some features can take a day to implement, and others can take several years. Things that aren’t relatively pressing will be pushed to make way for other more pressing matters (like bugfixes, suddenly imposed WordPress 5.0 support, security, and more).
As we cover a broad spectrum of SEO optimizations which lend settings and details from other fields, this feature requires a lot of preparation. I hate bugs, so I take significant consideration in every relational aspect.
With that said, this feature (as proposed here) takes about two to three months to create.
The proposed feature is automated, but it requires you to update the post and doesn’t force a lock-in. It’s how Google wants it, and how users expect it to work, without locking you into my software.
Now, if you wish to implement this here and now, then I have a snippet for you that works exactly how other SEO plugins do it (incorrectly):
