    Hi,

I love your plugin – it’s very easy to use for us non-techy people and it works great so far for me. Thank you for making it.

The only issue I’m having is that in Google Search Console I have a “URL not accessible” warning message. Here is the full message:

“When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs were not accessible to Googlebot due to an HTTP status error. All accessible URLs will still be submitted.”

And the URL referenced is my custom 404 page: “HTTP Error: 404
    URL: /are-you-lost/”

I have all the advanced settings turned off, except for when I started getting the error in January, I thought it would help to turn on the setting that gives a 410 error if the requested object is in the trash. But with that setting turned on or off, I still get that Google Search Console error.

Just wondered if anyone else has this issue or if there is some setting I need to change to fix it. Thanks so much for your help.

    Hi Lori,

it is OK that Google reports an 404 error. That is the desired behavior.

The actual problem ist that the 404 page you created is included in your sitemap. That should not be the case. Which plugin do you use to create the sitemap?

Hi Peter – Oh I see. I used the sitemap feature in Yoast to create it. I’ll have to see if there’s some settings to not include that page in the sitemap then. Thank you, I appreciate the reply!

    Hi Lori,

today I tested a solution to exclude the 404 page from Yoasts sitemap automatically. Everything seems to work fine so far. Please give me a few more days for testing and completing a new version that fixes this problem.

    Hi Lori,

a new version is available since a few minutes. In this version the 404 page is automatically excluded from the sitemap generated by Yoast.

Please let me know if it works for you.

    Regards,
    Peter
