I am wondering if it is possible to add a custom field to the Add Event page that would allow me to enter in a shopping cart URL so when the event is published that field with the link would be a styled button.

yes, try Settings > General > General Options > Enable event attributes (choose Yes) then add your events attributes at > Event Attributes e.g. #_ATT{cart_url} then you can add this at Settings > Formatting > Events > Default single event format
