Custom fields for countries list?

Considering using this plugin for a project, which requires a Countries taxonomy with custom fields “Continent” and “Region”. (not hierarchical, countries need to be top level terms only) Is it possible to add custom fields to the countries list in PODS (is it a custom taxonomy)?

Also what is the country list based on? We need it to be ISO 3166. How often is it updated?

If no to either of the above we’ll use our own custom taxonomy but it would be nice to use the built in one if possible.

I didn’t find any information about this in the documentation site (which seems to be under construction) or searching the forum. Is there another place to find the documentation?
