Custom Fields issue under 3.4.2

    Hi,
    I have setup a new dev site using 3.4.2 and am running into some issues when attempting to add custom fields to a page.

    When I add a new field it fails to add and then the “Add Custom Field” button disappears. They only way to get the button back is to reload the page (or cancel the new page add and try again).

    I have managed (somehow?) to get a few custom fields added, but for the most part it is not working as it used to in 3.4.1.

    I have tried this under Chrome and IE 9.
    My server is a shared server from Hostgator.
    I am using Twenty Eleven theme, latest version.
    All plugins have been deactivated.

    This is a known issue which should be fixed in WP 3.5. In the meantime, install http://ww.wp.xz.cn/extend/plugins/hotfix/

    Hmmm… would really be better if a value was not required when entering a custom field – this was previously not required.

    This has code implications for custom templates and themes. Something which is really unnecessary. The Value field should be optional.

    Why would you set up a custom field and then not give it a value?

    Values were always required when adding a custom field, even in WordPress 1.5.

    The answer is mainly because the person setting up the field does not know the data.

    Anyway, I have applied the Hotfix as prescribed, however it does not fix it completely – just so everyone knows.

    The “add custom field” button still disappears and the page has to be reloaded in order to get it back.
