We have a multisite setup and are using the Advanced Custom Fields plugin on the sites. We purchased the Broadcast Premium Pack and installed it on the top site and network enabled it. We have the same custom fields created on the site we broadcast from and the one being broadcast to. When we create a post it gets broadcast to the other subsite but the custom fields do not appear in the post on the subsite. We’ve tried adding shortcodes in the post’s main text area and that doesn’t appear to work either.

Is there a tutorial or instructions on how to use custom fields and get them to be broadcast to the posts on the subsites?

This is more of a question for the ACF plugin, but still: how did you get the fields on the child blog? Did you create them manually or did you broadcast the field group itself?

The latter is the correct way to ensure that the fields are exact duplicates on both the parent and the child, thus ensuring that they work identically on both blogs.

    Hi Edward,

Thanks for the reply. I’m fairly new to all of this so I created the custom fields manually to match on each site. Since that appears to be the incorrect way I will delete them from the subsite but can you offer any advice on how to broadcast the field groups?

    Thanks!

Edit the ACF field group and use the broadcast meta box, which should be visible when editing the group, to simply broadcast the whole group to the child blog.

This will duplicate the field group exactly.

I deleted the custom fields off of the subsite so now they only exist on the site that we are creating the original post on. We edited the AFC field groups and made sure there were check marks next to: “Link this post to its children”, “Custom Fields” and the site we want the post to go to under the “Broadcast to” section.

The post publishes to the subsite but none of the custom fields appear in the post. If you go to the dashboard of the subsite and view the post, the short codes are showing in the posts text area so it looks like it is sending the short codes but none of the data appears in the post. Those areas are just blank on the post itself. Any ideas?

I think some screenshots would help. The field groups on both blogs and the posts themselves would be great.

    Edward,

It appears to now be working. I’m not sure why. I was running out of ideas and thought maybe it might have something to do with the different theme I am using on the subsite so I decided to check all of the broadcast to boxes to all of the subsites (four total) and see if it worked on any of the other site. After doing that it now appears to be working on all of the sites and the data in the custom fields is appearing in the posts. Strange, but I’m happy it’s working. Now I just need to style them.

Well, glad it works. Better not question why…

    Marking as resolved.
