Custom flags after last update

    Hi!

    First of all thank you so much for your plug-in, it saves incredible amounts of times and issues.

    As of last update however I’ve been having a tiny issue with my custom flags. I thought I just had to upload them again but that didn’t do the trick even though I uploaded them with the right locale both in the /polylang and the /polylang/flags folder.

    I’ve been going crazy thinking it’s a caching issue either from my browser, the server or a hidden plug-in feature, but then I read this.

    Are custom flags not supported anymore?

    My audience is from all around the world, so to keep it more neutral for my audience in the different countries I use the flag of the country where the language originates from (i.e. GB and ES) instead of the country flag of the locale being used.

    Hi!

    There was no change in how custom flags are managed by Polylang.

    I uploaded them with the right locale both in the /polylang and the /polylang/flags folder.

    That’s not the right way as each time Polylang is updated, this directory is removed (with your custom flags) by WP. As described in the FAQ, you must create a new directory ‘polylang’ in ‘wp-content’. Then you can put your custom flags with the correct name in this directory.

    Once it is done, go in Settings-> Languages -> Settings and click on save changes.

    The last step of Chouby’s answer is obscure, but critical. Supposedly, the flags are cached upon saving the settings. Therefore, when changing flags, you have to save the settings.

    I had the same issue, but I wasn’t aware of the last step (saving the settings). Now all works as I want! Thanks!

    Perhaps this little extra instruction could be included in de FAQ-answer?

    Good suggestion. This last step is mandatory since 1.7 only and I forgot to update the FAQ.
