Custom icons explanation

Hi,

i would like to add some custom icons. You replied very shortly to this issue here: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/custom-icons-50/

But i would like to have some more details how this works. I assume i upload some icons to my website and register these.

add_filter(‘wp_menu_icons_register_icons’, ‘your_icons’);

– what does the ‘your icons’ reference to? mediaid?
– what size/graphic format to use?
– where to add this filter?
