Custom php script for homepage not working

Hello, I inherited a custom template that is giving me trouble. I am doing some volunteer work for a local non-profit entering content into their new WP site. It is not yet live. I am new to WordPress and usually design with Joomla. I am not a programmer.

I reached out to the original developer but he has not responded. The site currently resides here: http://joanne721.com/performance/

The script that isn’t working is for the homepage (home.php). It was calling four pages from a section called ‘Programs”. There were four images with overlays and four corresponding rows of text+image below.

It now only calls two.

The first time it broke, I had installed Velvet Blues to fix links. So I restored it to an earlier version assuming Velvet Blues had broken it. That seemed to fix it. Four pages from ‘Programs’ were again displaying on the homepage properly.

I did not reinstall Velvet Blues. I reentered content I had lost in the restore and proceeded to enter more. The next day it was broken again.

I tried deactivating two plugins that I had installed: Enhanced Media Library (to organize images into folders) and Add Custom CSS (I had minimally styled another page but not with <i> tags).

The homepage remained broken.

I created a fifth ‘test’ post for ‘Programs’ and it displayed on the homepage along with one of the original four. But still only two (the two most recent) were displayed when there should be four.

I am hosting with InMotion Hosting and have escalated the problem but they have not been able to help. I contacted the original designer and he suggested I appeal to this forum. It is WP 4.6.1.

Any advice for a WordPress newbie is greatly appreciated!
