I’m creating a website that requires many post types, and for some reason there are a certain post type that keep disappearing from the dashboard sidebar menu. Althought the posts within the types are still there and the advanced custom fields will automatically link when I recreate the post type again, they have been disappearing from the backend. Not sure if this is going to keep happening or if there’s anything in the settings that could prevent this from happening again, as I am handing this off to the client in a couple of weeks

Are you trying to make use of the “Menu Position” field for these? or are you letting that default to whatever WordPress internally recognizes in the end?

The first couple of times, I did position each of the post types using the menu position field. I did recreate them again, but this time didn’t position them, they are on the dashboard menu, but the last couple of times they disappeared, it was after about a week. Perhaps, they will stay this time since the other post types that didn’t disappear wasn’t positioned!

WordPress is slightly odd with the menu_position spot because last I knew, you could have positions overlap, and they don’t really throw any sort of warning/error/etc, it just overwrites.

That said, gradual disappearance is also odd unless more got added in that time. If was just “yeah, haven’t touched the site at all this week, and they’re gone…” hmm.

My team and I updated and worked on the wodpress site throughout the week, so it was being monitored. Will update in about a week or two to report if they disappear again! Hopefully not setting positions will be the culprit!

After about 1 week of updating the site and 1 week of also not touching the site, the custom post types that disappeared before has stayed. Thank you Michael, you were correct about the positioning fields, not using them was the culprit for the original disappearances!
