Custom Search Form

Hi

I am trying to set up a custom search form only, to place on the home page of the site and to do this I have referred to https://wpjobmanager.com/document/tutorial-creating-custom-job-search-form/

In following the instructions given it seems to work partially i.e. when using the keyword(s) and location parts of the form the results shown work – but the category part does not, instead this just contains – name); ?>

Also the form appears large on 4 separate lines (Keywords, Location, Category, Search Button) and what I am after is for all to appear just on one line which I presume is done via some CSS coding – but I do not know or can find what this code should be.

We can’t help too much with custom code like this, but it seems like you just have some invalid PHP syntax somewhere. I’d take a peek at whatever file you’re using to create the custom form and see if you can spot any PHP syntax errors.

Hi

I know what you have said about not being able to help more on this.

But could I just check something I have used the coding on this page https://wpjobmanager.com/document/tutorial-creating-custom-job-search-form/ replacing the url with my own jobs page.

Have I done this correctly??? Because you mention that I should look at the file I’ve used to create the custom form and try and spot any PhP syntax errors when all I have done is copy the coding from https://wpjobmanager.com/document/tutorial-creating-custom-job-search-form/ and place in a text widget.

Not sure if I should be also placing something in the theme PhP file??

As you can guess I not too familiar with coding

I don’t think you can simply paste the PHP code into a widget and have it work. On my test site, I ran into the exact same problem when I did that:

Try installing and using a plugin like this one:

… and then inserting the code into that widget. 🙂 It worked for me:

That plugin works great in getting the search functions working as they should.

Now I just need to try and figure out how to get all the search boxes on one line
