I have a site that uses Relevanssi to enhance the search option on the site. One of my favorite things about Relevanssi is that you can check “Create custom search result snippets” to create highlighted search results (see screenshot). However, when I enable that function, the header links stop working completely. πŸ™

Is there any way to keep the custom snippets enabled AND have my header work at the same time?

I currently have “Create custom search result snippets” turned off, but the website in questions is https://historicgeneva.org/

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

What exactly happens to the header links? How are they changed when you enable the custom excerpts? Does the HTML code for the header links change? Does this problem occur if you use custom excerpts, but no highlights?

Do you use “Conditional and Inline CSS Load Experiment” from Elementor? If you do, does disabling that help?

    Hello Mikko!

I have temporarily enabled the “custom search results snippet” and switched the CSS Print Method to “External File” (rather than internal embedding) within the Elementor settings. This seems to have fixed the issue with the search. Can you take a look and make sure that it is working as it should when you search on the site? https://historicgeneva.org/

I would also be open to hearing if you have any other suggestions for improving the search functionality of the site.

I truly apprecaite your halp and this plugin! πŸ™‚

The highlighting looks good now. I’d make the excerpts bigger, at least on a desktop computer they could be twice or thrice as long as they are now. That would make the search results page look nicer and the excerpts would be more helpful.

When I click the search button in the top menu, the search field pops up, but the focus isn’t automatically moved to the field. I have to then click the field to be able to type the search terms. It would be good usability to have the keyboard focus move automatically to the search field.
