custom taxonomy as input field?

Hi,

I am wanting to use a custom taxonomy of postcode on a site. I would like to be have this as an input field when a user is signing up, so that when they enter a postcode, 3000 for example, the taxonomy is assigned, and if it doesn’t exist it creates it.

Is this possible?
