Currently we don’t have an action hook in BetterDocs.
Besides that modifying the layout files from child theme isnt possible.
However, if you’re an Elementor page builder user, you can modify your templates by using the Elementor Theme Builder.

Unfortunately we don’t use Elementor as we have fully embraced the Gutenberg Block Editor and wouldn’t want to install another page build just for this.
If I was to add another template to the main directory would the plugin recognise this?

I’m sorry to inform you that, currently template file modification/creating a new template from a child theme isn’t possible in BetterDocs.
If we bring this option/add an action hook to modify the templates in the future, we will surely let you know here.
