customer information fields for shipping data

Hello,
My question is regarding the Customer Information fields a user sees when they go to the invoice page to pay. i.e. the same data that’s stored in the WordPress user area as ‘Billing/Invoicing Info’.
By default I will be filling these fields with their shipping address because I am shipping them products (and only want to collect a shipping address at the start to make it easier for them).
When they visit invoice page I will instruct them that if their billing information is different to the (shipping) information as shown, would they please replace the fields with their billing information
Is this a recommended approach in order to ensure a successful payment and will it submit ok?
Also does it update the WordPress user record automatically with the new field data they inserted
I will still have their shipping address on an email separately
