Hi,

Can the events page be customized? Do I have to buy a plugin to customize it with a constructor? Or do I have to change the layout in code?

Can the main slug be changed? Do I have to buy an add-on to change it?

No, you do not need to purchase any plugin to do this.
we have complete developer documentation, you can find here:

But if you did not familiar with code, you can use the addon to do this visually, find MEC addon here: https://webnus.net/modern-events-calendar/addons/
