I have the same issue.
Buyers get e-mail after they already purchased goods.
Payment method was BACS, and the order status is still “waiting for payment”.
They got the abandonment e-mail after purchase and reordered again after 30 minutes.
Now they have 2 orders, which a bit unpleasant, not so professionally.

We are working on this issue and we may provide the option through which users can select the order status for which the user does not want to send recovery emails.
