Dashboard display issue with Site Kit Summary
-
I am seeing an issue related to the previous period line when comparing the Site Kit Summary to the Site Kit Dashboard. On the Site Kit Summary, the last entry, when comparing against the current day for the previous period, is always ZERO. But on the Site Kit Dashboard, it has the correct value. This is not a functionality issue, but causes us to have to click into the Site Kit Dashboard to see the real current day comparison.

Hi there @texashauntersgroup and thanks for opening a support topic for your issue. I’d be happy to help you investigate this. Please could you share the following:
- Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
- A recording of the experience so that I can see where the discrepancy is. You can use a service such as Loom to capture and share your recording here.
Once you have shared the information above I will be able to review everything and perform some further checks. If you have any questions in the meantime then feel free to ask them.
@adamdunnage I have uploaded the site health information to the form.
Here is the link to a video to see the issue of the summary always showing a zero for the previous period current day comparison: https://www.loom.com/share/9585c24fd30b47538488d96e0409a27a?sid=621b87c4-8bd7-4d87-81bd-ae2e7185f371
@texashauntersgroup Thanks for sharing your information and the recording which is very helpful indeed. I can see that you are comparing the Unique visitors over the last 28 days found on the WordPress dashboard Site Kit summary widget with the Search traffic over the last 28 days found on the Site Kit dashboard.
It is expected that the values here will be different as one is showing Unique visitors and the other is showing all Search traffic. So this is expected behaviour as these are collating different metrics.
I hope this helps to explain this for you but if you have any other issues or queries then please do let me know and I’ll be happy to help with those.
@adamdunnage Thanks for pointing out those are not apples to apples I missed that when I was attempting to report my main issue which you can still see in the video.
The main question I have is, why is the dashed line for the Previous Period on the Site Kit Summary page always ZERO for the current day comparison?
@texashauntersgroup No problem at all and happy to answer your follow up question. The reason you may see no data for the current day is because this data has not yet been pulled through using the relevant APIs. It is normal to see a small delay for current day data as this is pulled at a certain time of the day.
Should you continue to see no data 1-2 days after the date then please do let us know but if it is just for the current day each time then this will likely be due to the data not yet being pulled through from the relevant Google services.
Does this help to answer your question? And is there anything else I can help with?
@adamdunnage correct me if I am wrong but on the summary, the dashed line is the previous period. So why would the previous period data not already be present when comparing to the current day data which is present? It is the previous period data that shows zero not the current day.
You’re correct that the dashboard line is indeed the previous reporting period, the 28 days prior to the current reporting period @texashauntersgroup. Hovering over the chart will display the specific dates (screenshot).
It is the previous period data that shows zero not the current day.
That is also correct. I can indeed see what you’re describing with no data for a specific day, the last day it seems, in the previous reporting period compared to the current reporting period. Note also that what you see in this dashboard should match what’s available from analytics.google.com. If there is no data for specific days in the previous reporting period, it’s possible that for these days, there may have been nothing recording in Google Analytics, as this information is pulled from Google Analytics directly via the API provided.
Let me know if you have any further questions on this. Thank you.
Yup, that is the issue! Every day, the last day of the previous period is zero. Then tomorrow will be zero, and the day before will be fine. It is always the last day of the previous period that is zero. So the data is there, just an issue with the chart for the previous period’s last day.
That is indeed unusual @texashauntersgroup. While it’s not something I am experiencing on a couple of test sites I have with data, but we can hopefully determine more on this. To do so, can you please share a recording demonstrating the below:
- The widget as it appears at present
- What you see when clicking on the “Visit the Site Kit dashboard” link
- What you see for the last day of the previous reporting period on the Analytics section (Sunday May 18th). You’ll need to change to the 90 day reporting period for this (screenshot).
You can use a service such as Loom one more or Zight to share a screen recording, while using the same form previously used to share this privately. if preferred
Note that in your previous recording which you kindly shared, you did highlight what you see on the Site Kit dashboard, but this was from the Search Console section. The above requested information will help indicate any Google Analytics specific issue.
Once we have this recording, we can investigate this further and check with the team. Thank you!
@jamesosborne I have shared the recording using the form. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks!
Many thanks for sharing the recording, which was very useful to conform there is traffic. With that I went ahead and created a GitHub issue, see below:
https://github.com/google/site-kit-wp/issues/10943We’ll check this with the team and report back to you here once you have any additional updates. Thanks for reporting this! Please allow a few days before we come back to you with some additional checks or additional information. Thank you.
Thank you!
Just to let you know that we didn’t forget about you. We’re still performing some checks and I’ll hopefully have an update for you this week. Thank you!
Thanks for your patience on this @texashauntersgroup. We discussed your case and we’ll need to investigate further what may be happening, such as whether filtering for your site is a factor, or maybe an issue with the activeUsers vs totalUsers metric for your connected measurementID.
To troubleshoot this further, please visit the GA4 query explorer, and login with the Google Account you have connected within Site Kit. After doing so, populate the account, property, start date, end date and metrics fields, as depicted in this screenshot, where I’m capturing details for 29 days ago. If you can record this within another recording, I can add this to the related GitHub issue. Please also confirm one more that the issue remains when visiting the Site Kit widget on the main WordPress dashboard.
If you have any questions with the above, let me know.
@jamesosborne I have shared the recording using the form. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks!
