dashboard goes blank after installing plugin

    Hi,
    After installing an events plugin on my WordPress 4.0 site on linux mysql 5.5.37-cl the admin page goes blank the site sometimes stays up sometimes not so, I have tried a number of events plugins that are compatible with WordPress 4 and the same thing happens. the reason that I do not think it is just my installation is that I am doing the same thing on another wordpress site (same version) and the same thing is happening.

    Also as I cannot deactivate the plugin using wordpress admin I am simply moving the offending plugin folder to another folder using ftp to disable them.

    At the moment
    event-organiser
    events made easy
    events manager
    and
    wp-touch
    all cause this problem so maybe it is a version issue
