    Hello,

My public site works fine but when I log into the dashboard as admin it doesn’t fully load- instead I get a text only version, with basic formatting like a black background. It also does this on any edit post pages. When I try with my editor log in, it gets even worse as its just a white background with text. (Happens on all computers). I thought it might be an update thing but I get this message when I try to update:

WordPress 4.5.2 is available! Please update now.
An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.

The manual update doesn’t work either.

I’ve got a screenshot of what it looks like but I dont seem to be able to share it in a forum. Basically, its a pain to navigate the dashboard because its just a page of text.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

Thanks Esmi, though unfortunately that didnt work 🙁

I tried your last option too and strangely it came up with a fully formatted screen saying:

    No Update Required

Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!

With a continue button, that takes me back to the text-only dashboard again, which still has the update error message even when I try updating again.

What method did you use to reset the plugins? Phpmyadmin?

Hi, I tried one last time to update my version and it worked! Problem solved!
