    Hiya,

I naively went and updated a few plugins just now and – boom – wp-admin has vanished, just shows a blank screen.

Normally I’d log in and disable the plkugins one by one till I found the issue, but as I can’t access the dashboard at all, this isn’t possible.

    Plugins running:

    wp accessibility
    wp symposium pro
    user role editor
    eyes only access
    email newsletter
    use any font
    simple access control
    all in one security
    background manager

Is my only option to delete the plugins via my server file manager? Or is there something else I can do? It’s a public forum with 500 members so I’d rather not totally break it if possible!! Logged in users are able to continue using the site as normal and from the front end I can’t see any issues.

    Thanks so much,

    Beth

I’ve cleared my cache, and tried logging in with different browsers – chrome and safari.

I was able to log in via the wp-login page (not wp-admin or the login form that displays on the front end for logged out users), but still can’t access the back end – just white screen.

    Hello,

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Thank you KC! I’ll try that.

You are amazing. Thank you so much for the really fast help.

If anyone else has had this issue:

I followed the second method (renaming the plugins file via host file manager). This enabled me to visit the plugins page, and after a few page refreshes, there they all were. I activated one by one until the site broke again, then repeated, this time removing that plugin. Fortunately it wasn’t one that is crucial to the running of my site!!

The plugin that broke my site when I ran the update was Email Newsletter.

    Thanks again!

    Beth
