Dashboard widget gone

I’ve lost the Dashboard widget in a subsite in a multisite install. The main and other subsites have the widget visible and working. I reset the plugin and reconfigured it but it still no dice – and not even the ad is appearing in the dashboard. And yes, I did check the Screen Options – the widget isn’t even listed there.
