Hello, when performing the automated upgrade to go from 4.5.3 to 4.6, the site itself came back up fine, but all links to the back end are throwing 500 errors.

This is the error I see in the logs: 17-Aug-2016 02:12:03 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_raise_memory_limit() in D:\HostingSpaces\JanxEnt2\newtonlake.com\wwwroot\wp-admin\admin.php on line 141
This seems like this issue: https://core.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/ticket/37524

However, this requires a reinstall, and since I can’t access the backend, I can’t retry an automated reinstall, nor can I disable plugins or any of the first 4 prerequisite steps detailed on the Extended Instructions found here: https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended

This is my first WordPress site, which I just put up last weekend. My hosting admin told me that I could be charged for a restore, or offered that “As long as you don’t touch wp/content and upgrade the db vs. deleting and starting over, you should be fine with your data.”

I can’t seem to find specific instructions for only upgrading the DB on the Detailed Upgrade page, so given what I am experiencing, I’d be eternally grateful for any wisdom you may be able to share.

    Thanks,
    Janx

    Hi @edjanx,

You don’t need to do anything to upgrade the Database, WordPress will handle that for you automatically.

You simply need to follow the instructions on doing a manual update here:
    https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Upgrading_WordPress#Manual_Update

You can skip most of it, you just need to upload the new wp-admin & wp-includes folders and all the files in the base directory (wp-settings.php, etc). Don’t delete wp-content from the server, and don’t alter wp-config.php and you’ll be fine.

Thank you @dion Hulse! That resolved my issue.
