    Can I host my database on a different server than my website is hosted on?

    Having problems getting my database to connect. I have never had any problems before.

    I have a uniquec situation where I need to host the site in one area then move it after it is built so I tried to use a data base in the new hosting area. We do not have the domain moved there yet.

    Should this work?

    Not a good idea as I doubt if the host will allow it.

    All depends on the host; few allow it. Access your new host via temporary IP rather than domain.

    Thanks guys for your input. Didn’t know if it would work or not. I was hoping so. I’ll think of another way.

    songdogtech that would probably work or I may try putting the whole site in a subdirectory folder of a site on the same server but different account…

    Will play with it again tomorrow.
