Data Error in Search Console
-
Like others, i have been having problems with SiteKit since the most recent update. It was working fine before, but now I cannot see any data at all, only errors saying “Error: Looks like your site is not allowed access to Google account data and can’t display stats in the dashboard. To fix this, redo the plugin setup.” When I follow the link, I get an error stating “getting FILE verification token failed”. I’ve taken many different shots in the dark, like de-activating/re-activating, verifying on analytics.google.com etc with no joy.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for opening a support topic, and providing the troubleshooting steps you’ve undertaken. So we can understand your setup better can you share the following information:
- Your Site Health information. You can share privately if preferred.
- You mention Analytics, have you been able to successfully reconnect to Search Console?
If you have any queries on the above let me know.

James I already sent you the site health data privately as you requested – I did this immediately after I created this new topic. If you cannot obtain it please provide alternate instructions and I will provide it to you again.
Please elaborate on what you mean by “successfully reconnect to Search Console”. I am able to login to analytics.google.com and see the web site data – is this what you’re referring to?

Thanks for sharing and apology, I do see your submission now. I’ve reviewed your setup and there doesn’t seem any issues with your Site Kit configuration.
Please elaborate on what you mean by “successfully reconnect to Search Console”.
I was asking about your Search Console connection as I’m unsure if the issue you’re reporting is in relation to the Analytics or Search Console module. In the other topic you responded to the reporter was referring to Search Console. During your troubleshooting efforts I’m curious to know if you encounter any dashboard errors with just the Search Console module active.
If you can let me know at what stage you encounter the “getting FILE verification token failed” error I can provide some troubleshooting steps in order to get you successfully connected.
Hi James,
Whenever I try to view either the SiteKit Summary on my WP Admin Dashboard or the SiteKit Dashboard page, I get SiteKit errors stating :
“Error: Looks like your site is not allowed access to Google account data and can’t display stats in the dashboard. To fix this, redo the plugin setup.”
You can see https://i.imgur.com/nb60AGt.png for a screenshot of this.
I get the “getting FILE verification token failed” error when I click on the “redo the plugin setup” link that is displayed in the dashboard error message above.
I’m really at a loss how to sort this out, so any advice is appreciated…

Double checking in SiteKit settings it says both Search Console and Analytics are connected – see : https://i.imgur.com/QEsl7tg.png

Thanks for your troubleshooting efforts so far, this notice can occur when the API response reports a missing Search Console property.
Are you able to access that same property when you access this link?
I was not able to initially, I had to clink on a link on that page to verify my ownership, and now that is working. Unfortunately, I still get the errors on my SiteKit dashboard in WP. Any further suggestions?
DW
There’s actually no data there, as it says the property was just added to the account earlier today. But if I login as normal I see plenty of history. I have no idea what went wrong here…
It seems like there is something strange going on alright. Can you inform me of the following:
- Is the error message the same now or does it just display a “Data not yet available” notice? If so it may be a case of waiting for additional search traffic.
- Do you have other administrator users on this particular site who may have also performing the Site Kit setup process?
- When you access this link and click on verification details for your https site do you notice any other verified users you were not aware of?
Hi James,
1. Same error as it has been for last week or so, since I did latest updates : “Error: Looks like your site is not allowed access to Google account data and can’t display stats in the dashboard.”
2. There is one other administrator, my wife Franca, but she definitely is not oding any backend WP Admin activity.
3. Same, only verified users are myself and my wife
Any further advice is appreciated…

Thanks for the update, interesting findings. While I’ll check your side on the Site Kit service side can you try and disconnect from Site Kit by clicking on your email in the top right of the Site Kit dashboard?
After doing so you’ll need to reconnect once more. Let me know if you encounter the same notice.
Ok, I’ve disconnected, and here’s one oddity – it says: “You revoked access to Site Kit for http://www.cigarsense.com
Site Kit will no longer have access to your account. If you’d like to reconnect Site Kit, click “Start Setup” below to generate new credentials.”Yet there is no “Start Setup” link anywhere on the page – screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/tRkVUsF.png
So I need to figure out how to re-do the setup…
Oooooohhhh…
Well here’s an odd twist that suggests perhaps this problem has nothing to do with the SiteKit update but rather stems from work I also did last week to create a local copy of this WP site on my laptop. I clicked the button to “Sign in with Google”, and went through a series of questions to authorize access, then I was re-directed to my local copy of the website, which I happen to have offline right now (screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/4okhow5.png).
Does this give any clue how I can correct the problem?
Thanks,
DW
Ah, that’s interesting. In that case lets try and reset Site Kit. Just bear in mind all Site Kit connections will be lost, for the other administrator also. Please follow the steps below:
- Reset Site Kit (Site Kit > Settings > Admin Settings > Reset Site Kit)
- Open a browser incognito window
- Attempt Site Kit setup once more
During setup check the Site Kit dashboard with just the Search Console module active and inform me whether you encounter the same notice.
If you do encounter the same notice can you inform me how you migrated your site locally to your web hosting provider, did you use a plugin?
Hi James,
I’m still trying to resolve this without any success. I’m unable to follow your instructions above, as I do not have the Settings option under SiteKit (see screenshot here: https://i.imgur.com/0Pd6pmp.png). When I click the button “Sign in with Google”, then sign in, I’m asked to grant access to my Adsense data, and told all other access has already been granted. Here’s the rub – when I click to accept, I am once again re-directed to my LOCALHOST copy of this website.
Somehow, I’ve gotten Google confused as to what the real website is. How can I disconnect my local copy of the website from Google??
Thanks for any advice…
