I received the below email from my hosting company and the problematic query relates to a data file for Stop Spammers Spam Control kpg_stop_sp_reg_stats . Do you know what may be causing this issue?

Thanks, in advance, for the help.

The MySQL database on your WordPress hosting account caused an overload of shared resources for the server on which it resides.

Due to the serious, immediate nature of this problem, it became necessary to disable access to the database, until such time as it could be safely reinstated without further negative impact.

As we are unable to troubleshoot custom scripting, we are unable to provide a specific solution to you. However the following information was provided by our administrators:

Example problematic query excerpt and available info:

Your site is being hammered by spammers. The stats collection is updated in options every time you get hit by a spammer. You can try unloading Stop Spammers so you get less database activity, but spammers are the problem.

You can also reduce the log file size so that the size of the data is much lower. It should be 25 by default. On the log reports page set it to 10.

Consider using a htaccess file to block known spam sites. The htaccess file will kill spammers before they hit wordpress.

Better yet, change to a host that specializes in WordPress and can help prevent spammers from hitting your site.

I would immediately set up CloudFlare for your site. CloudFlare will cache you pages and block known spammers – and its free.

    Keith,

Thanks for the quick response. I am using GoDaddy’s WordPress hosting and it doesn’t work with CloudFlare, unfortunately. The website has a forum section so it’s a big target for spammers.

    Thank you again,
    Kristin
