    Hi @duracelltomi,
I tested your update 1.21 (currently have 1.20.3) which gave the hint to check if the template supports ‘woocommerce_thankyou’… (actually, I did not understand in the first place, if you referred to GTM or the wc theme template, but assumed the latter) – my understanding is, that if I still receive purchase events, everything should be fine, right?

But while testing, I found that my server got much more talkative regarding the data layer… it even sent unhashed customer data, even though this option is unchecked…

    I reverted to 1.20.3…

    Could you kindly check?

    Thanks

    Markus

Yes, if it works after the update, you are good to go.

The required woocommerce_thankyou hook is usually supported by all major template vendors, I would expect issues with very customized and custom tailored templates.

But while testing, I found that my server got much more talkative regarding the data layer… it even sent unhashed customer data, even though this option is unchecked…

I tested this again on my test site and when I disable the option to include customer data in the data layer, I do not see it appearing. If you see customer data in your vendor (for example GA) network requests, that could be because some automatic data collection is also turned on (just guessing)

    Hi,

thanks for your quick reply! 🙂

I had my system and GTM completely up-to-date and just evaluated the difference between 1.20.3 and 1.21…

    What I did:

    • I updated my WP/WC installation to the newest versions of all plugins except GTM4WP (1.20.3)
    • I made a backup of the system
    • I previewed the current GTM version (“In Vorschau ansehen” in German)
    • I did not see any unscrambled customer data
    • I updated GTM4WP to 1.21 and reran the test
    • Now I saw unscrambled customer data
    • I restored my backup

In other words: I saw the difference only after updating to 1.21.

Shouldn’t an automatic collection of data (actually, I don’t know how to enable something like this at all) be independent of 1.21?

Could you give me some hint on how to evaluate further?

I will for sure redo my testing, just to sort out any testing issue on my side.

    Thanks

    Markus

    Hey @duracelltomi ,

I tested again and yes, you are right – customer data is not the problem.
    I mixed things up.

It’s when I enable “order data in data layer” that it send e.g. first and last name, hashed and non-hashed and also the email unhashed.
At least last and first name unhashed was not the case before the update, email I cannot say.

I currently went with the update but disabled the mentioned option.

    Best

    Markus
