• I have been trying for the last few days to install a version of WordPress (2.7.1 actually) and it seems that I need some help πŸ™‚

I found the 5 – minute tutorial and I got stuck at the first point. I do not understand what kind of database am I supposed to have.
What programs am I supposed to install on my pc? I have neither MySQL nor Cpanel nor anything else installed on my pc.

  • Unless you are trying to install WordPress on your local computer, where it will not be available from the internet and you will be the only person who can see your WordPress installation, MySQL and Cpanel are not and never will be installed on your PC.

Those programs run on a webserver. To access them you need a web hosting account. (If you don’t have a hosting account and don’t know where to get one, search Google for “webhosting” and you will find hundreds.)

A very easy way to get WordPress installed on a webserver is to get a hosting account that includes the Cpanel control panel. Cpanel has a script installer program called Fantastico. Fantastico will install WordPress for you – all you do is fill out a few fields of information on a form and click a button. That way you don’t need to do a thing with databases or FTP programs or install scripts or configuration files.

I want to install it on my personal computer, which is connected to the internet, so this is not a problem.
I searched for a web host and I have found an interesting one, which has Cpanel included. I will return with questions as soon as I receive the email from them and finish my mail confirmation.
    Thank you so much, stvwlf!

Ok, I have done this, I have a web host now.
    What do I do next..?

    Hi

Go into your webhost control panel, find Fantastico, and install WordPress. At the end of the install, have the install details emailed to your email aaddress. Then go log into WordPress and begin configuring your site.

Once you are installed, this Codex page

is a directory of all the official WP user documentation

Fantastico is not working right now, it is in maintenance. How long will it be like this, does anyone have any idea?

I tried to install it manually, but when I write down the URL, it does not find me the file in the site. What could be the cause?

Note: I installed the files in the main directory, without creating any folder or something. Is it wrong?

Fantastico not working would relate to your webhost, not to Fantastico. You should report the problem to your web host tech support & ask them when Fantastico will be back.

Its fine to install the WP files in the main directory. Did you do the install?
