Database Connection

So site has been up and as im updating the site today, I refresh and get the wonderful database connection error. Cant even log into my wp-admin for the site. Is this a wp error, or is it a hosting server error? Should I give it a little while to see if the server comes back up or is there anything I can do to fix it.
