• Hi Community Support Team,

I hope you are doing well.

I would like to request a Knowledge Base (KB) article for migrating a MariaDB database to PostgreSQL DB. This will help us plan and execute the migration process smoothly while ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime.

Specifically, we are looking for guidance on:

    • Prerequisites and compatibility considerations between MariaDB and PostgreSQL DB.
    • Step-by-step migration procedure
    • Recommended tools and utilities (e.g., dump/restore, replication, etc.)
    • Handling schema, stored procedures, and user privileges during migration
    • Best practices to minimize downtime and avoid data loss
    • Validation and rollback strategies post-migration

This documentation will be very helpful for our team to carry out the migration in a controlled and efficient manner.

Kindly prioritize this request and share the relevant KB article or documentation at your earliest convenience.

Thanks in advance for your support.

WordPress is only compatible with MariaDB or MySQL. It is not compatible with PostgreSQL. Therefore, nobody can provide any instructions for this.

The last person who tried this had already asked about it here: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/configuring-wordpress-with-postgresql/

Hi, migrating from MariaDB to PostgreSQL is not natively supported by WordPress, so it can be quite complex.

You may need to use third-party tools or plugins that handle database conversion, but compatibility issues can still occur. It’s important to ensure that all tables, queries, and plugins are compatible with PostgreSQL.

I would recommend testing the migration in a staging environment first before applying it to your live site, to avoid data loss or functionality issues.
