• Hello!

I’m hoping i can get an answer here – it has been 3 days and my webhost (hostgator) has still not got back to me!

    I have two websites: sofiehughesphotography.com and soulsistertherapies.co.uk

my photography website was hacked just before christmas. I had it professionally cleaned, but it would appear that the hack deleted everything.

If you go to the URL it is just a blank page.

I then noticed that my soulsister website was the same.

I did a fresh install of wordpress on both, and in the wp-config files linked them back to their original databases as the databases all seemed to contain their original content still.

This has worked fine for soul sister website – other than a few theme issues that i need to go in and sort out.

But my photography website is still not working. I uploaded an updated version of the theme i am using – still nothing.
I deleted the theme altogether and activate the twenty15 wordpress default theme.

    still nothing.

with hostgator not getting back to me, i’m just trying to work out what is going on. Could this be a hostgator server issue, or am i missing something?

    I’m close to either:

    a) paying a wp bod to go in and sort it out for me as i think i may have reached the limit of my capabilities.

    b) scrapping wordpress all together and using someone like squarespace for my website so they take care of everything.

any help/thoughts on what could be wrong would be much appreciated!

    many thanks

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    hi james,

i have done the above for plug-ins (i havent added any additional plug-ins to the default wordpress plug ins that you get with the install) all are deactivated.

I have deleted my old theme all together and activated default wordpress theme twenty15.

my website still does not work

Ok, try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    thats not worked either 🙁

any other suggestions? Still trying to get hold of someone at hostgator!!!!

That would be my next suggestion. A blank screen means that PHP is crashing. We’ve ruled out the common causes (function conflict due to plugins, theme, or core file corruption), but the server error logs should have a more detailed reason as to why.
