database/posts question

I uploaded wp and it was working fine, had 3 posts into and decided to get a domain name, now in the transfer of wp to the new domain, I could not get it working, so I installed a brand new copy. My problem now comes, is there a way to get the post from the old database into the new one? I looked at the import, but it only browses my desktop, not the web server. I guess the big question is where do the posts go or where are they saved to, when they are published.
