date-based archive for specific categories

I have a category called ‘Papers’, and I’d like to generate a date-based archive along the lines of wp_get_archives, but only for posts in this category. Is there any way of doing this ? Ideally, I’d like a list of links of the form ‘2008, 2007, …’ and so on in the sidebar beneath the link for the category.
