date custom fields help

Hello,

I want to use this plug in to order posts that are events so I want an event start and finish field and then to get the posts to show in the order in which they are happening.

I have seen bits and pieces on here about date pickers and some code but can’t figure out what I am meant to be doing with it all – should I be working out a short code? Should i be making a new page template? I am pretty confused.

I have made a template that works :

[portfolio_date]
label = Portfolio Date
type = text
date = true
dateFormat = yyyy-mm-dd

Although it has no end date option but how do I now get posts with dates in to show in a ‘soonest event at the top’ order on a page?

Any help would be appreciated – I am sure it is something very simple that I am jsut not understanding.
