• Regarding the List-View Calendar Type: How is the Date Format set for the Nav Header section?

I understand that a user can specify the date format for each calendar feed as part of a specific calendar’s configuration, while some situations rely on the WordPress site settings to determine Date Formats. However, there’s no control interface for the Date Format for the Navigation Headers.

The Date Format for Nav Headers can be wonky in certain circumstances. While the display is sometimes determined by the Default WordPress settings panel, this is not consistently the case. On my site, the initial load of the list-view calendar does not display using the WordPress Date settings for the Nav Header section. However, when users click the Navigation arrows to advance the day, the format changes. It seems that on a nav click, the WordPress settings get picked up, but only after the Nav arrows are clicked:

List-View Calender display on initial page load is 20 Jun 2025:

Here’s the same Calendar, after the user clicks one of the Header Nav Arrows to the next day. Notice that the Nav Header now uses my desired WordPress Date Display settings (D, M j) so Sat, Jun 21 is the Nav Header:

Given most use cases for the List View Calendars, I believe showing the year (2025) is undesirable so I design the date setting display to omit the year and feature the day of the week instead. In an ideal world, it would be fantastic to have local control over how the Date Format is displayed in the Nav Headers, but perhaps the onload situation could be tuned so that the WordPress settings are recognized immediately.

    If it’s useful:
    WordPress v 6.8.1
Simple Calendar Plugin v 5.3.3 (with a few custom styling mods)
PHP: 7.4.3.3 (but also using 8.1+ in a test environment)

Here’s an image of the Simple Calendar Demo page, with an arrow highlighting the standard display of a List-View “Nav Header.” It’s this bit that I am interested in.

I will say that this is one of the best WordPress plugins around, so I am grateful for all your continued efforts to update and keep it relevant for 2025. I’ve been using it since Ross Hanney set up the initial version years ago. Thank you!

    Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

About your question here, I was not in position to replicate the issue on initial load. I was however in a position to replicate an issue with the Date format inconsistency and have notified the development team about this for further checks.

My apologies for the inconvenience caused.

    Kind Regards
