Yes, events are listed in descending order by date of creation, not by event date.
If you want to list events w.r.t event date then you need to customize your Event Planner by understanding its code structure first and then write a custom code for it.

This seems a rather large flaw in the plugin. I am setting this up for a client and to ask them to manipulate the order of the entries by the changing the published date seems very Mickey Mouse. It is a great plugin apart from this one giant oversight. Surely the one thing you want the event listing to be is in date order!

Your suggestion is good but we are providing a generic solution according to the need of the most users. Your requirements are more specific for your event listing template so here we suggest you to implement a custom solution.
