Some of my earlier posts don’t have featured images so they only show the title in the widget.
You could try http://ww.wp.xz.cn/extend/plugins/get-the-image/, my plugin support it.
Is there a way to limit the time span? So it only shows the random posts from the last 2 years?
Actually I’m not set up any limit, I need to check the issue.

I can asign featured images, that is not the problem, it is just a LOT of work 😀 As it is for over 1000 posts.
If you could set up that time limit it would be the coolest thing 😀

Would it be possible to ad a standard image for when no featured image is available?
That would help a lot.
Something like what gravatar does when no custom avatar is chosen by a commenter they ad a standard grey man image 😀

Hello Caroline,
How about if you try to install http://ww.wp.xz.cn/extend/plugins/get-the-image/, you only need an image on your post and the plugin will generate the thumbnail to display it on the random post widget.

I tried that plugin, gave me posts with 2 featured images. Did not work well.
But I solved the problem with another plugin: Default featured image
http://ww.wp.xz.cn/extend/plugins/default-featured-image/
With that plugin you can asign a default featured image for all posts that do not have a featured image already. And your plugin will show that default featured image also.

I agree. This plugin is fantastic, but a time span limiter would make it perfect. If I could chose how long the date range is, it would be great for what I am doing with my site.
