I had problems with my site when hacked into and decided to install fresh wp 2.5.1 I did as was instructed and deleted any old files and installed wp .
after this i pointed my config file to the db callum_chuffer but it wouldn’t accept this and was finally installed when I made a new DB callum_chuffer2 . Because of this I have not been able to recover any posts etc from the first db . Is there a way to transfer this info to the chuffer2 db . I am not good with SQL db’s so any solution made simple would be appreciated or how to get wp to see the original chuffer db .

    thx chuffer

Not too sure what was hacked, but change your wp-config.php file to point to the ‘old’ database. Then use the Manage->Export to create an XML file. Then change the wp-config.php file to point to the new database and do Manage->Import->WordPress with the XML file.

Thanks for the reply but after trying this all that happens is as soon as I change wp-config.php to the old db callum_chuffer and try to use Manage export then I get a 404 Error Not found and I can’t log back into wordpress until the config file is changed back to the new db callum_chuffer2

Do your old database, works fine? If yes, I think you can export all data from de old one to the new one.

If you don’t have any ideia tell here and I show the How-to.

PS: is that obvioslly? If it is, sorry. Mean that I didn’t get your problem =/

When I point the config file to db callum_chuffer then I just get a blank page . Point it back to callum_chuffer2 and the site comes up .
How can I check if the old db works ? all I want to do is transfer the records from chuffer to chuffer2 – is there an easy way

And NO – nothing seems obvious to me

    Thx

Seems you old database doesn’t work. Might try Rebuilding it with phpMyAdmin then repeat the process I detailed above.

Or could ask your host to restore an old copy of the database.

Might want to do a database backup before doing anything else.
