If you deactivate the plugin or delete it, will it throw off your WP site or is there anything users should be conscious about?

No, the media library is unaffected if you deactivate or delete the plugin. The first time the plugin is activated it adds a table to your WordPress database. If you want to remove that table, then before deleting the plugin activate the Media Library Folders Reset plugin and click the Database Reset option. That will remove the table and then you can delete the plugin.

I was actually wondering the same thing. Is there a process we need to follow before deactivating/deleting this plugin to ensure documents/files map back to the correct locations in the WordPress database?

I read an FAQ here, but this doesn’t seem to fully relate to the question above:
    https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/media-library-plus/#faq
Entitled: Images Not Found After Changing the Location of Uploads Folder

Can we please get a clear set of directions on this?

I had a customer change their mind on using this plugin and they want to go back to the WP defaults. Unfortunately, I created a fairly in-depth folder structure that has over 15 folders/sub-folders containing over 100 documents/images/files. Now I’m afraid to touch anything. 🙂

There is nothing to map. When you move a file its location is updated in the database. The location does not require Media Library Folders to be installed. And at one Media Library Folder did not update the URL of files embedded in post and pages but a feature a few months ago to take care of that when a file is moved or rename. So they is nothing to worry about if Media Library Folders is removed.

    Hi Alan,

Apologies. I now see your previous answer. I must have been posting at the same time you responded. Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.

    @alan,

After following the directions “exactly as you state” in your first post and then deactivated and deleting the plugin, I dumped the cache in my browser and on the server.

Everything still works, but I did notice that documents/files still retain the folder mapping I created with this plugin.

I thought after following the directions above all documents/files were supposed to go back to using the default media library mapping/path… “Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders”.

Following your directions, when I activated the “Media Library Folders Reset” plugin it wanted me to first deactivate the “Media Library Folders” plugin. I ignored this and followed your directions of clicking on “Reset Database”. I then deactivated the reset plugin first and then deactivated and deleted the main MLF plugin.

    Did I do something wrong?

Thanks for your time. Much appreciated.

I reinstalled your plugin and inside the plugin moved all files back to original locations, deleted the folders I created and then deactivated and deleted the plugin.

Thanks anyways. What I really don’t understand is why this customer wants to go back to using the default WordPress month/year organization of files. That’s complete chaos for me. I think they like doing things the hard way. Oh well.

Thanks, I have no plans on deleting it. I’m thinking about upgrading to pro because it makes things media folders easily to delete. I was just wondering later down the line incase the plugin stops being updated and obsolete 🙂
