• Hi, we have a bilingual French/English blog where we set the default language to English so that all non-French visitors will land on the English version first. So far so good, but…

All our posts and pages are first written in French and then translated to English. But with the default set to English, authors and editors always start with English for every new post or page, even if their admin language is set to French. This means they need to actively switch the new post to French or the it will be published in the wrong language.

Is there a way to set the default language per author/editor? Or make it so that new posts default to the user admin langue? Or maybe make the default language for new posts on the admin side correspond with the Site Language setting on Settings > General?

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions 🙂

    Hi Rolf!

Authors can use the admin language filter in the toolbar on top of the screen. It filters the lists (posts, terms, etc…) but also controls the default language for new posts. This setting is per user.

If you prefer to create your own logic, then this filter should help you 🙂

Hi Frédéric, hope you are doing well and merci for your explanation 🙂

At least one author prefers to keep all languages visible but still would like to start with French for new posts. So I’ll have to use the pll_admin_preferred_language filter in that case… Does it expect a ISO 639 language code?
